Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)-initiative of ‘School on Wheels’ took off with 10 buses visiting each of the eight BBMP zones here on Wednesday.
The initiative was for students of Classes I to V, Assistant Commissioner for Education Umesha BS told The New Indian Express.
The project is aimed at mainstreaming children involved in beggary, and kids of migrant workers working predominantly in the construction industry, who had dropped out of school, the report said.
The upcycled buses’ routes were decided prior to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The authorities procured the old buses at Rs 4 lakh each and decked up to resemble schools inside.
Clusters chosen for the implementation of the project are Doddagollarahatti, Hosakerehalli and Kolageri, the assistant commissioner for education said.
