New Delhi: In a bid to be in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) announced by the Centre a year ago, the IIT-Delhi has commenced various new programmes to meet the directives and guidelines.
The prestigious Institute has started a School of Public Policy, School of Artificial Intelligence, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Department of Design — all are interdisciplinary in nature.
According to an official statement quoted by NDTV, every PhD student admitted in this academic unit is supervised by two or more supervisors belonging to different academic disciplines.
The institute already has multiple interdisciplinary undergraduate programmes, and several more are in the pipeline, said the statement.
Two new BTech programmes of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature — BTech in Engineering and Computational Mechanics, and BTech in Materials Engineering — began in 2020-21 academic year.
The institute also said that more interdisciplinary programmes are being launched, like BTech programme in Energy Engineering starting in the academic year 2021-22, and the Bachelor of Design from 2022-23 academic session. It is contemplating beginning a BTech programme in Design from 2025-26.
