HRD Ministry Issues Fresh Guidelines For Online Classes

New Delhi: The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) on July 14 has issued guidelines for conducting online classes by schools and recommended limiting screen time and the number of sessions.

The guidelines were issued after the ministry received complaints from parents over schools conducting online classes like regular ones. This has increased screen time as students have been attending online classes for over four months now.

According to the guidelines called “Pragyata”, the ministry has recommended duration of not more than 30 minutes for pre-primary students. While for classes I to VIII, two sessions of not more than 45 minutes have been recommended. In addition, around four sessions of 30 to 45 minutes can be conducted for classes IX to XII.

“To mitigate the impact of the pandemic, schools will not only have to remodel and reimagine the way teaching and learning have happened so far but will also need to introduce a suitable method of delivering quality education through a healthy mix of schooling at home and schooling at school,” HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Due to the pandemic, students at both school and university levels have been forced to stay home and take online classes.
