IGNOU Announces Launch Of Medical Management Course For Doctors

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of a post-graduate certificate programme in ‘Medical Management of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Disasters’, a first in the country. The programme is open to only MBBS doctors.

According to a statement issued by the university, the six-month-long course will commence from January 2020 session.

“Medical management of CBRNE disasters require specific knowledge and skill set that is not covered in the undergraduate curriculum. India is particularly vulnerable to CBRNE attacks. Thus, society and governments need to create special provisions to deal with them,” said a IGNOU statement.

The course will be offered in collaboration with the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Integrated Defence Staff (IDS). The centres where it will be offered are AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Jodhpur, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences Punjgutta, Hyderabad and AIIMS Saket Nagar, Bhopal.
