IIIT-Delhi Develops Mobile App ‘WashKaro’ With COVID-19 Tracker

New Delhi: Delhi’s Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) has developed a mobile app called WashKaro with an inbuilt COVID tracker to warn people when they come in proximity with COVID-19 patients.

IIIT-Delhi, in a press release has claimed that the new app has tools including a symptom tracker, built as per WHO guidelines, to inform about their safety from time to time.

Besides, the app also checks and verifies COVID-19-related news and can raise awareness among people regarding the infection.

WashKaro app delivers bite-sized audios in Hindi for specially-abled people.

Speaking about the new app, Dr Tavpritesh Sethi, a clinical data scientist and an assistant professor of computational biology at IIIT-Delhi said, “WashKaro is the first AI-powered infodemic management app that provides a suite of tools to keep users safe at all times by providing authentic audios in Hindi, bluetooth-based physical distancing and self-tracking.”

The app doesn’t require internet or location services. It only uses bluetooth technology for communication.

The onAIr feature of the app, makes use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cross-checks news with WHO documents.
