New Delhi: Two students of computer science engineering from Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi have developed a mobile application to help people seeking to get vaccinated. The application sends a notification to users about available slots on the CoWIN vaccination portal.
IIIT launched the Telegram bot, ‘CoWIN alerts’ this month, which has already garnered over 40,000 users since then. Third-year student, Paras Mehan and one of the developers credited the user-friendly and simple interface as the reason behind the bot’s success.
Individuals will be required to provide their district or pincode and their age group in order to book a slot. The bot currently provides information for 5,002 pincodes and 594 districts. The individual is then updated via a notification as and when the slot is made available, with the message providing information on the centre, the number of slots and the date of availability.
