IIT-B To Begin Online Semester For First-Year UG Students On November 16

Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) on Wednesday announced an online semester for first-year undergraduate students. While the orientation programme is scheduled for November 11, the classes will begin on November 16.

IIT Director, Dr Subhasis Chaudhuri shared that the first week of instruction will be a “zero” week, where students will be guided on how to attend lectures and exams online.

“Our student mentors will be reaching out to you beforehand and help you to get properly oriented so that your onboarding becomes a smooth one. There will be an orientation for parents or guardians also as they need to help you study from home,” Chaudhuri said, reported The Indian Express.

Chaudhuri also added that the semesters have been planned in a manner that students can complete the entire academic year by the end of June. Moreover, the students will receive one month of summer vacation next year, following which semester dates will be synchronous with the rest of the batches.

This year, the institute is not providing accommodation facilities due to the coronavirus pandemic and the academic year will be held from November to March 2021 and March to July as per the offer letter given to students.
