Guwahati: In a first, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has introduced an MS (Research) programme in E-Mobility, a course on electric vehicles. The institute will start the admission process for this new programme on June 15, 2020.
Only 20 seats are available for this course wherein 10 seats are reserved for students who have completed their BTech in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering.
The other 10 will be offered to industry-sponsored candidates, selected on the basis of either a written test or an interview, or both.
The programme is headed jointly by the institute’s Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering.
“This programme will give an opportunity to students and professional engineers to develop the skills related to design, development, manufacturing, and maintenance of Electric Vehicles and their components using the state-of-the-art techniques,” Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, Professor Santosha K. Dwivedy was quoted as saying by the Times of India (TOI).
Adding more on the necessity of this programme, Head of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering of the institute, Prof Rohit Sinha told TOI that “Within one decade, the nation is projected to adopt the EV culture in a big way. Thus, it is high time for young engineers to join this exciting technological revolution and reap fulfilling career opportunities. I’m confident that this new MS programme will help them realise their dreams.”
