IIT Kanpur-Railways Join Hands To Improve Productivity Of Rae Bareli Coach Factory

New Delhi: The Railway Ministry, Department of Science and Technology and IIT Kanpur have forged an alliance to use of new-age technologies in increasing productivity in rail coach manufacturing units.

The alliance will leverage on ‘Industry 4.0’ to increase productivity and efficiency in the manufacturing unit. ‘Industry 4.0’ comprises a host of digital technologies like artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning and cloud computing.

The project will be launched at the Modern Coach Factory in Rae Bareli, news wire IANS said in a report.

MCF, is a state-of-the-art coach manufacturing unit with the capacity to manufacture 1,000 passenger coaches annually, and the project is expected to bring greater efficiency in the manufacturing process. It will also help railways take decisions on a real-time basis.

“About Rs. 4,000 crore is expected to be spent in years to come in Interdisciplinary cyber-physical systems (ICPS) to foster and promote R&D in this emerging field of research,” Rajesh Agarwal, Railway Board Member, Rolling Stock said in a statement.
