IIT Kharagpur Develops Mechanised Brooming System To Clean Roads

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has developed a road cleaning vehicle with merchandised brooms to clean the campus and other places amid the shortage of cleaning staff during the lockdown.

The vehicle named ‘Sammarjak MB 4.2’, uses battery and solar power to function, which keeps the maintenance cost low.

The institute has planned to use the brooming system at the campus.

“We had restricted entry of a significant section of the workforce to our campus from late March. Further, we have reassigned some cleaning staff towards sanitising the key areas on the campus,” IT Kharagpur Director Prof Virendra K Tewari told India Today.

With this new system, the institute will not require many sanitisation workers to clean its 2,100-acre campus.
