Kharagpur: In the light of dipping COVID cases on the campus, IIT Kharagpur has permitted the research scholars to enter the laboratories, albeit with restrictions.
The campus was closed between January 18 and 23 in an effort to break the chain of infections and subsequently, researchers were not allowed to enter the labs. The access, however, was restored on Tuesday, officials said.
According to the dean of students’ affairs, Dhrubajyoti Sen, the number of COVID cases had come down to 20 from more than 200 around the middle of January on the campus.
“The research scholars now can go back to the labs by adhering to certain restrictions. The heads of the departments will decide on the restrictions. Some may decide to call maximum 50 per cent of the scholars at a time. Some may call even fewer scholars. The measures will be decided based on the size of the labs,” Sen had said.
