HYDERABAD: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched five new online courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI) on its SWAYAM Plus platform.
These courses will be offered free of cost and are designed to make AI education accessible to learners from all academic backgrounds.
Interested candidates at the undergraduate, postgraduate or working professionals can register on the SWAYAM Plus platform and apply for the AI courses being offered by the IIT Madras.
The last date to submit application is May 12.

SWAYAM Plus is a Ministry of Education initiative operated by IIT Madras. The platform offers more than 380 job-oriented courses across sectors like engineering, IT, hospitality, and BFSI, many of which are vetted by IIT experts and aligned with national credit standards.
Salient features of course
The five AI-focused courses are AI in Physics, AI in Chemistry, AI in Accounting, Cricket Analytics with AI, and AI/ML using Python.
AI in Physics – Explores the use of AI tools such as machine learning and neural networks in solving real-world physics problems. Includes hands-on labs and interactive applications across fundamental physics concepts.
AI in Chemistry – Introduces students to AI applications in chemistry – from molecular predictions to modeling chemical reactions – using real-world datasets and Python.
AI in Accounting – Designed for commerce and management students, this course connects accounting principles with AI applications. Practical use of Python and datasets helps learners explore automation in accounting.
Cricket Analytics with AI – Focuses on sports analytics using Python and data science concepts. Students learn to analyze real-life cricket data through case studies and visualization techniques.
AI/ML using Python – A foundational course in AI and ML, introducing Python programming, statistics, linear algebra, optimization, and data visualization for real-world problem solving.
Each course ranges between 25 to 45 hours and is structured to provide hands-on learning through real datasets and case studies.
No prior knowledge of AI or coding is required, making these programmes suitable for a wider audience. Certification options are available for a nominal fee.
Eligibility criteria
These programmes are open to undergraduate and postgraduate students across disciplines such as engineering, science, commerce, arts, and interdisciplinary studies.
Faculty members from higher education institutions can also enroll. The only prerequisites are basic digital literacy and a willingness to learn.
According to a statement from the IIT Madras, Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning) and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator at the institute, the courses are aligned with the National Credit Framework (NCrF) and can be taken as credit-eligible programmes by universities.
Institutions may choose to include these offerings as part of their official academic calendar under skill development.
