ISRO Chief Urges Students To Stand Up To Global Challenges

Mangalore: ISRO Chairman K Sivan urged the graduates to respond to the global challenges of climate change and natural disasters and devise strategies that enable mankind to adapt to the unprecedented turn of events.

Sivan was speaking during the 19th convocation of NIT Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal virtually on Saturday. He said that the world is up against the climate change challenges and natural calamities which may change the face of the earth in the future and subsequently impact our lives.

“The future generation has a challenge to sustain ourselves in this changing scenario,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

According to Sivan, India is now in a start-up boom and several professionals are quitting their well-paid jobs and responding to the demands of indigenous consumers through various start-ups. “The space sector has also undergone reforms under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ The government wants to set up a space industry ecosystem to generate more revenue through reforms in space,” he said.

He called urged the graduates to pick what is close to one’s heart and not to emulate others. This will help achieve excellence in professional life.

Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan said in his address that the NIT-K has set up a panel to implement National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and a few features are being incorporated in the curriculum during 2021-22.

NIT-K Director Umamaheshwar Rao appealed to the graduating students to connect with the society and find out the issues to be part of the solutions for the problems posed.

A total of 1,681 candidates — 120 PhD, 766 postgraduates and 795 BTech students earned their degrees.
