New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to bear the medical expenses of students who were injured in police action on Sunday.
University Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar interacted with injured students on Thursday through video call during which she said that the university will foot their medical bills, news agency PTI reported.
She interacted with a couple of students undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital and interacted with Mohammed Minhajuddin, who lost sight in his left eye, in the police lathicharge. The VC also spoke to 10 other students.
Meanwhile, the university has lodged a complaint “illegal entry of policemen” in the campus and their attack on students, PTI said.
“In the lathicharge that ensued, a large number of policemen forcibly entered the Jamia campus through gate number four and seven, and started mercilessly beating the students both boys and girls,” it said.
“Many students of the university received serious injuries and were being treated at hospitals,” the news agency said quoting the complaint lodged by the university.
