Jamia Moves Up Seven Places In THE World University Rankings 2021

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has improved its ranking in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2021. The University now stands at 12th position which was 19th earlier.

The university is among the few Indian academic institutions which improved rankings and maintain a good position in the global ranking.

On Wednesday, the London based Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2021 released its list. As many as 1527 academic institutions from 93 countries were assessed by THE this year. However, the number of Indian Institutions saw an increase to 63 from 56 assessed last year by the agency.

Prof. Najma Akhtar, vice-chancellor, JMI expressed her happiness over the improvement in ranking and performance of the university.

She said the performance reflects JMI’s growing international presence and outreach besides its impetus on high-quality research, publication and teaching. She hoped that the university would improve its performance which would increase its ranking further, according to India Today.

THE World University Rankings 2021 has taken five parameters in consideration: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Industry Income (2.5%), and International Outlook (7.5%) for assessing the performance of universities.

Also, JMI secured 10th position in the country by the Ministry of Education’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF-2020).
