JNU To Build Medical School & Hospital On Campus

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will establish a medical school and multispeciality hospital on the campus shortly. The medical school will offer programmes in PhD, MD, MD-PhD, MD, DM, MCh, MS and MBBS.

“JNU Academic Council unanimously approved, as per the provisions of JNU Act 1966, establishing a School of Medical Sciences and an attached Hospital with broad and super speciality departments, including supporting and non-conventional departments,” JNU vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted on Tuesday.

The estimated expenditure for setting up of the medical school and the hospital would be to the tune of Rs 900 crore. The 500-bed multispeciality hospital would be spread over 25 acres of land in the varsity campus’ southwest corner.

The varsity council has also approved the inclusion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) as an elective credit course with theory, practical and camps training.

“So far, NCC was an extracurricular activity but now this curriculum will provide an all-round education and personality development for NCC cadets,” JNU said via a statement.
