Jammu: The department of journalism and media studies was launched at the University of Jammu which was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar. Professor Dhar described it as the fulfilment of the region’s long-awaited desire.
The vice-chancellor dedicated the department to the people of Jammu and elaborated on the department’s long-term academic and infra-structural vision while speaking on the occasion.
Professor Dhar categorically said this department will not function like any other existing department and all efforts would be there to make it one of the best Departments, if not the best one.
The Centre for Media Studies shall comprise of Oral History Cell, Language Lab, and Community Radio Station, according to the VC.
“All these components are also in the final stage of their completion. These components, once functional, shall become nodes where students can hone their necessary skill and the practical experiences of handling the latest equipment,” Prof Dhar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
He also complimented Prof Shyam Narayan Lal and Dr Vinay Thusoo for their exemplary job and lauded their efforts in achieving the set target of establishing the department.
