Srinagar: There’s good news for Kashmiri migrants and Kashmiri pandits living in the Valley. Youngsters applying for college admissions from those families will get concessions, from the academic year 2020-21.
According to an All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) notification, these students will get up to 10 per cent relaxation in cut-off. Also, the number of seats will be increased by up to 5 per cent in each course for them.
Further, at least one seat will be reserved for these students in merit quota in technical or professional institutions.
Kashmiri migrants won’t have to produce domicile certificate. However, Kashmiri pandits or Kashmiri Hindus will need to produce it, reported The Indian Express.
The AICTE has also allowed colleges to give admission to students without entrance exams like CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT for the upcoming academic year.
“In many of the states, some of the above entrance tests could not be conducted due to fear of the spread of coronavirus and there is no indication as to whether these tests are postponed or likely to be held or cancelled,” the AICTE stated. However, unlike the concession offered to Kashmiri students, this is a one-time measure.
