New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shot off a letter to Narendra Modi on Saturday, urging the Prime Minister to intervene and cancel the term-end examinations at Delhi University (DU) and other Central Government Universities.
“It seems that only your intervention can resolve the problem. I request you to amend the decision taken by the Centre and UGC and cancel the final semester/year exams to save the future of our youth,” wrote Kejriwal.
Citing the example of eminent institutes like IITs and NLUs, which are going to promote their students on the basis of internal assessments, Kejriwal asked Modi why all the universities can’t follow the same method.
“Revised guidelines of UGC have caused unrest among students, teachers and parents,” Kejriwal noted, adding that everyone felt that the decision taken by the UGC is wrong and should be rolled back.
“The Union HRD minister and UGC are not ready to change their decision,” Kejriwal pointed out.
The latest guidelines issued by University Grants Commission (UGC) directed higher education institutes to hold their final semester exams by September, without fail.
States like West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, Punjab and even Delhi have cancelled the term-end examinations in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
