NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has given his nod to creation of 200 additional Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) posts in the government schools in the national capital. The announcement was made through a statement from Raj Niwas.

Salary

The posts will cater to secondary and senior secondary levels under the Delhi Directorate of Education. The teachers will get a salary in the range of Rs.47,600 and Rs. 1,51,100. The move aims at enhancing the quality of education in the government schools.

The initiative seeks to tackle issues such as favouritism, corruption, reservation violations, and employee harassment, often associated with non-permanent roles, said a release issued by the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

At present, more than 9,500 Children with Disabilities (CwD) are enrolled in classes 9 to 12 in Delhi government schools.’

Dearth of teachers

Only 283 PGTs for Special Education are employed when compared to the sanctioned 301 posts. Despite 609 government schools in the capital catering to Children with Disabilities (CwD) at the senior secondary level, the shortage of special education teachers has created challenges for these institutions in meeting the needs of inclusive education.

The newly approved posts will help strengthen the current workforce, ensuring that the government’s inclusive education policies are effectively implemented in line with the Right to Education Act 2009, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, and the National Education Policy 2020.

This decision stemmed from a collaborative assessment process conducted by the Directorate of Education in consultation with the Administrative Reform, Planning, and Finance Departments of the Delhi government.

The Lieutenant Governor has highlighted the need to promptly fill vacant positions in government schools across Delhi through exams conducted by the DSSSB.

The ongoing recruitment drive aims to address further vacancies, including those for Post Graduate Teachers, Trained Graduate Teachers, and Nursery Teachers in the government schools.
