Madurai: Jothi Sri Durga, a 19-year-old girl, committed suicide on Saturday in Madurai (Tamil Nadu) over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam fear and stress about securing admission to a medical college.
As per the police, Jothi Sri was preparing for the NEET exam by attending coaching classes. She was extremely worried about getting admission to a medical college. She had attempted the exam once earlier.
Jothi Sri wrote in a suicide note, “I really studied well. But I’m afraid. If I can’t get the medical seat, I will disappoint everyone,” quoted The Indian Express.
Jothi Sri Durga also wrote that if she fails to secure a seat in medical college, all their (family) hard work will go in vain. In a pre-recorded audio, she apologised to her family for taking the extreme step of ending her life.
This is the second such death occurred in Tamil Nadu in the last two days. On Thursday, 19-year-old V Vignesh, another medical aspirant from Ariyalur district, also killed self over exam stress. He had attempted to crack NEET twice earlier.
