NIT-Durgapur Develops Automated Artificial Ventilator

Kolkata: To meet the growing demand for ventilators in view of the corona pandemic, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur has developed a simple automated artificial breathing device.

Speaking about the invention, NIT Durgapur Director Anupam Basu told PTI that the Artificial Manual Breathing Unit (AMBU) has undergone a “successful clinical trial on a small scale in the initial stage.”

“The AMBU can be called a simplified ventilator in which the volume of oxygen can be controlled uniformly through automation,” said Basu.

However, the AMBU can be shared with healthcare facilities for being provided to the patients only after conducting further clinical test on a larger scale.

Professional doctors, who are consultants to project ‘Pranesh’, along with NIT are carrying out the clinical trials.
