Chandigarh: Schools in Punjab can charge tuition fees only if they have provided online classes to students during the coronavirus lockdown, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled on Thursday.
The HC also directed schools not to charge students any transportation fees as they did not use the service during the lockdown.
A division bench of Justices Rajeev Sharma and Harinder Singh Sidhu also said that teachers and staff, whether they are permanently appointed or on a contractual basis, have the right to their regular salaries as before the lockdown (March 23).
The HC order came after several petitions filed by parents and the Punjab government.
