Bhubaneswar: Amid protests from Class X students, the Odisha government on Wednesday announced the cancellation of the annual Matric examinations 2021.
Announcing this at a press briefing, School and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said as per the directions of the Chief Minister on April 15, meetings were held with all the stakeholders of the School & Mass Education Department and keeping in view the upsurge of the pandemic situation of COVID-19, the Class-X Board Examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education (BSE) scheduled to be held from May 3 and all examinations of Odisha State Board of Madrasa Education scheduled to be held from May 19 are hereby cancelled.
The decision of the state government came in the wake of the protest by the Class X students of the government schools who had staged dharna near the Forest Park in the capital city on Tuesday demanding the cancellation of the examination in line with the CBSE and the CISCE.
The students had taken up the matter with the School and Mass Education minister who assured them to take a final decision in two days. Besides, they had also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
