Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday launched the ‘Chatra Protsahan Yojana’ (CPY) under which students belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories of the state will be provided with free coaching for medical and engineering entrance examinations.
The ST and SC Development Department of the State will open 7 Centres of Excellence in SC and ST schools across the state, in which 320 such students will be provided free education every year.
Centres will encourage the students of Higher Secondary Schools to go for higher education. The main intent of the scheme is to identify and nurture the potential ST/SC students from a young age for higher education in Medical and Engineering, the government said.
Students will be selected on the basis of 10th standard result and a selection test among the students who have passed matric from SSD High Schools.
During the inauguration, Member of Parliament, Amar Patnaik distributed 200 tablets to meritorious SC and ST students picked for specialised coaching for engineering and medical entrance exams.
