Odisha’s Meritorious Plus II Students To Receive Rs 30,000 From State Govt, Instead Of Free Laptops

By EB Bureau on November 25, 2020

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will henceforth be transferring money directly to bank accounts of meritorious Plus II students, instead of buying laptops for them.

The State Higher Education Department decided earlier this month that meritorious students who have cleared the CHSE Plus II Examination 2020 will receive Rs 30,000 in their bank accounts for purchasing laptops.

From 2013 till now, the government had been distributing free laptops to 15,000 Plus II meritorious students under the Biju Sashaktikaran Yojana.

According to an official of the higher education department, several laptops meant for such students were found unused at colleges. Therefore the government decided to provide money to beneficiaries instead of laptops.

The Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) and Student Academic Management System (SAMS) is developing software to prepare a list of bank accounts of 15,000 meritorious students.

A notification will be issued once the process is completed.

The top 15,000 students from different streams are identified at the district level as part of Odisha’s youth policy.
