Bhubaneswar: The idea of classroom lectures has undergone a radical change thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. A teacher reading out lessons while the students are all attentive to the teacher is now a thing of past.
On the contrary, students staying tuned to various online sessions on laptops and smartphones is normal these days.
The style of learning and education has evolved gradually since 2020 when the virus first attacked. The online methods of education and learning were not immediately sought. The physical classes were simply suspended till further notice as people expected it to last only for a month or two.
However, with time, the people have realised that the COVID-19 pandemic was not vanishing any time soon and that prolonged delay in learning was affecting the future of children. With no options, the mode of education desperately shifted to the online platform.
According to a National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) report, Edtech companies of India had witnessed 50 per cent growth in their viewership by October 2020. The industry had attracted around 1 billion USD worth of investment between March and September 2020. This steep rise in the charts is a testimony to how far the sector has grown as a result of the pandemic.
While the students and people were not ready to take the plunge initially, learners grabbed the opportunity with both hands. This medium has also helped the learners save and repeat the lecture in case they missed any.
Online study has become more affordable too for learners as compared to physical classes. This medium allows children to study at their own pace and also gives them a chance to personalise their curriculum.
