#PostponeGATE2022 Trends Online; Candidates Seek Deferment

GATE 2022: Following the postponement of several exams across the country due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, candidates of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 have sought the cancellation of the entrance test.

GATE is slated to take place between February 5 and 13 and the admit cards been also been released. The admit cards can be downloaded from the official website — gate.iitkgp.ac.in. Over 8 lakh candidates are expected to take the GATE 2022.

Highlighting the difficulties in travelling and making it to the exam centre due to the restrictions imposed by authorities in the wake of the third wave of COVID-19, students urged the officials for the postponement of the entrance test.

Earlier, over 23,000 GATE 2022 aspirants joined a petition demanding the postponement of the recruitment-cum-admission test.

“With the current third wave, COVID-19 due to its new variant Omicron has spread severely in several states, cities. Several studies including one done by IIT Kanpur predict that the peak of the 3rd wave is expected in early February and the wave will end by April. Therefore, the peak is most likely to coincide with the usual exam dates of GATE,” read the petition.

“If the exam dates are not postponed, the candidates appearing for GATE 2022 run an imminent risk of getting infected and spreading it thereby getting threat to their life as well as their family member’s lives,” the petition was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
