Bhubaneswar: The BSc (nursing) students of city-based Shree Vidya Niketan College of Medical Science and Research are on dharna before the Utkal University vice-chancellor’s office here since Tuesday morning over non-issuance of their certificates and registration numbers.
According to Bibhu Prasad Das, one of the 36 agitating students, they have been pursuing bachelor’s degree in nursing for four years and appeared in the examinations conducted by Utkal University. But the university is refusing to issue them certificates as their college is no longer affiliated to it.
“The varsity even issued us admit cards, but now the university authorities are saying our college is no longer affiliated and certificates and registration numbers cannot be issued, although our final year results were declared two months ago,” he said.
“When we enquired about it, the controller of examinations said the university conducted the exams after the director of SVN College Janardhan Nayak gave an undertaking,” he added.
“The office of DMET (Directorate of Medical Education and Training), had counselled us to choose SVN College for admission into BSc (Nursing). When we pointed this out to the authorities, they said the college had affiliation then but it was withdrawn later,” he claimed.
“For two months we ran from one office to another but couldn’t get our work done. So we decided to sit on dharna in front of the VC office,” said Bibhu.
Later in the evening, the VC met the agitating students and promised that they will be issued the required documents by Wednesday evening.
When Odisha Bytes reached out to him on Wednesday afternoon, Bibhu quoted the officials as saying that the necessary paper works were being carried out for issuing the certificates, marksheets and registration numbers.
