Pune: The Pune district administration on Sunday announced the extension of the night curfew and closed down schools till March 14 following the spike in COVID-19 cases here.
However, the essential services have been exempted from the curfew. “COVID-19 restrictions imposed in the Pune city till February 28 have been extended to 14 March,” Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
“As per the new order issued today, schools, colleges and private coaching classes in the city have to remain closed till March 14,” the Mayor said.
“No public movement except essential services will be allowed between 11 pm and 6 am,” Mohol added.
A total of 4,06,453 case have been reported in Pune, out of which, 3,87,527 have recovered. Pune has 9,860 active cases and the toll is at 9235.
According to the State Health Department, Maharashtra reported 8,623 fresh COVID-19 cases, 3,648 recoveries, and 51 deaths in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 toll stood at 1,56,938 on Saturday with 113 new casualties.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier directed senior officials to initiate strict action against people or organisations who flout COVID-19 guidelines.
The municipalities in the state were directed to spray disinfectant at public places on a regular basis.
