Patiala: Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday laid the foundation stone of Punjab’s first dedicated sports university, along with other development projects in Patiala.
According to a state government press release, the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University will be developed at a cost of Rs 500 crore, while Rs 60 crore will be spent for the academic and administrative blocks and hostels.
Recalling the contributions of his grandfather Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the Chief Minister said that he wished to see Punjab grow as a sports hub, with scientifically educated sportspersons and coaches.
Thanking the village of Sidhuwal for providing land for the university and other projects, announcing a Rs 50 lakh grant for the village.
Reassuring the people of the state government’s efforts to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, the CM said that he hoped that the staff and students will be able to move into the campus by 2022.
