Mumbai: The National Education Day event at IIT Bombay was virtually inaugurated by the chief guest, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal, reported website Livemint.
Addressing students, Pokhariyal praised IIT Bombay as a leading global technological institution, providing transformative education to future innovators and leaders.
He also spoke about the government’s commitment to transform India as a “global hub of education”, also saying that high quality of education could be ensured through “cooperation, coordination and agreement with the leading universities of the world.”
Encouraging students to study in India itself, he highlighted the 2020 National Education Policy’s (NEP) invitation of top 100 world universities to set up campuses in India for providing high-quality education here.
He conferred the Professor Krithi Ramamritham Award for creative research-2019 to Professor Jayakrishnan Nair (Department of Electrical Engineering) and Prof Varub Bhalerao (Department of Physics).
