New Delhi: Apprehending the havoc the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 can cause, the reopening of the schools in Mumbai for Classes I to VII students has been postponed by another 15 days.
The schools which were scheduled to reopen on December 1 will now resume on December 15, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
“Schools for Classes 1-7 will now reopen from December 15, instead of December 1, in view of the emergence of #Omicron variant of COVID19 in the world,” BMC was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Earlier it was decided that schools in Maharashtra would operate in shifts of three to four hours in groups, Maharashtra education minister Varsha Gaikwad said on Monday.
It may be recalled that the World Health Organisation (WHO) sounded a warning on Monday and said the new variant poses a “very high” global risk and could have “severe consequences” where cases are soaring.
