Salaries Offered To ISB Hyderabad Students Defy Economic Slump

Hyderabad: The Indian School of Business (ISB) has seen about 16 per cent jump in placements in the ongoing hiring season and a 125 per cent rise in the salary offers made over the previous year, said a statement issued by the institute.

Bucking the negative sentiments in the job market, the institute saw hiring from recruiters spanning a wide spectrum of industries such as consulting, IT/ITES/Technology, e-commerce, BFSI, FMCG, healthcare, education, media and entertainment, real estate and infrastructure etc, the statement said.

On day one of the placement drive, 1383 offers were made as against 1194 offers made last year. The average CTC on the first day of placements stood at Rs 26.15 lakhs per annum, a 124 per cent increase over the previous year.

The hiring of women students also saw an upsurge with Axis Bank, along with a host of other companies hiring for leadership roles in good numbers. The class of 2020, at 39 per cent, has the largest-ever representation of women, the statement said.

Like the ISB, the IITs have also reported record offers from the recruiters this season. The older IITs have seen students bagging pay package exceeding Rs 1 crore per annum, with IT behemoths being the major recruiters.

Several studies in recent months have showed increasing unemployment in the country and shrinking GDP growth rate. However, the ongoing hiring process could potentially revive the prevailing sentiments in the industry, a placement officer of a leading IIT told media.

Companies would still look for quality and retain talent despite the sluggish growth rate. There would be an upswing and the companies are investing in resource for the future prospects, he added.
