Sambalpur University Requests Alumni For Rs 1 Crore Fund To Develop Infrastructure, Says Report

New Delhi: Sambalpur University has requested its alumni network to contribute Rs 1 crore due to fund shortage of the university.

The university is contemplating upgrading the infrastructure in its premier colleges in Odisha, according to a report in The Indian Express.

The varsity aims to construct new administrative and academic buildings near Sambalpur’s Lajpat Rai Law College. The project will cost around Rs 2.6 crore. “Alumni should think of their alma mater and join its ongoing journey. I appeal to the alumni of Sambalpur University to contribute to its development,” vice-chancellor Sanjiv Mittal was quoted as saying by TIE.

According to the university officials, funds collated from the alumni network will be considered by the government while extending grants under the Mo College scheme.

Recently, the Odisha government has launched district college development facilitation centres (DCDFCs) for the development of higher education institutions, reported The Times of India. The district collectors have been asked to shoulder the responsibility to commence the centres and address the issues faced by state’s colleges.

Chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra undertook a review of the centres district-wise. “The development of colleges is one of the top priorities of the Odisha government at present”, said Mahapatra.
