New Delhi: Children who were earlier in a Child Care Institution (CCI) but have now reunited with their families are to receive Rs 2000 for their education from states, in lieu of the pandemic, according to a directive by the Supreme Court, reported Hindustan Times.

A Bench comprising Justice Hemant Gupta, Ajay Rastogi, and headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao, was apprised of the fact that 2,27,518 children were living in CCIs at the beginning of the pandemic, out of which 1,45,788 have been reunited with their families.

The Bench directed states to pay Rs 2000 per month for their education, as per recommendations of the District Child Protection Unit, keeping in mind the financial position of the children’s families.

The state governments were also directed to provide necessary infrastructure, books, stationery, and teachers for online classes of children living in CCIs, on the basis of the recommendations of the District Child Protection Unit within 30 days.
