Guwahati: With an eye towards reopening of schools that have been closed for more than seven months due to COVID-19 in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting regarding the standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the officials on Tuesday.
In a meeting with several departments, including health and education, the SOPs prepared by the higher education department were notified to the chief minister through a presentation given by the principal secretary of the department, B Kalyan Chakravarti.
The minister directed the education department to take the utmost care to strictly observe COVID-19 protocols while reopening the schools.
The CM also suggested felicitating COVID warriors, plasma donors in the school premises to inspire students.
“Among many negatives, the pandemic has brought some positives as well and making the people aware about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene was one of them and education department must take this opportunity to spread the message of cleanliness in the society through the students,” the CM said, quoted NorthEast Now.
According to the SOPs prepared by the education department, formal classes will start from November 2 for the students of Class VI and above.
Further, students of Classes VI, VII, IX and XII will have classroom teachings on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of every week while Students of class VIII, X, and XI will have classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Likewise, the students of first, third, and fifth-semester degrees will have classes for two, three, and four days respectively every week.
Classes will commence in two phases and each phase can have a maximum of 25 students.
