Schools To Reopen After COVID’s Second Wave; Check States & Dates

Bhubaneswar: Andhra Pradesh was added to the list of states deciding to reopen schools, after the scary second wave of COVID-19, on Friday. The AP government said that the schools would reopen for the academic year 2021-22 on August 16.

The decision was made after a high-level meeting chaired by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Here is a list of the states and their announcements:

Odisha: The Odisha government had on July 18 made the decision to reopen schools for classes X and XII on July 26. According to School and mass education department secretary Satyabrata Sahu, a comprehensive standard operating procedure for reopening schools would be issued.

Himachal Pradesh: Schools will reopen here from August 2 for classes X and XII, while students of classes between V and VIII would only be allowed to go to schools to clear their doubts.

Gujarat: The Gujarat government has permitted the reopening of schools here for classes IX to XI from July 26. However, only half the seating capacity would be allowed to attend schools. Attendance is not mandatory. Meanwhile, the schools had already reopened for class XII students on July 15.

Haryana: The schools here reopened for classes IX to XII, following strict COVID-19 protocols on July 16.

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu government had only allowed teachers to attend schools for student admissions, distribution of textbooks, preparation of academic syllabus and other such administrative activities. The order had no mention of reopening schools for students.

Rajasthan: Schools here are set to reopen on August 2, the government said in an official statement on July 22 (Thursday). “In the cabinet meeting held today, it has been decided to open all the schools of the state from August 02,” tweeted school education minister Govind Singh Dotasra.

West Bengal and Delhi have not announced any immediate plans to reopen schools.
