Separate Vaccine Booking Slots For Teachers, Support Staff On CoWin Portal

New Delhi: In a bid to vaccinate the most crucial segment of the society — teaching and non-teaching staff — the centralised CoWin portal has launched two special categories for teachers and other staff as the states contemplate reopening schools for all classes.

More than 2 crore COVID-19 vaccines have been allocated to the states to inoculate these two categories on a priority basis ahead of the Teacher’s Day on September 5.

“States must expedite full vaccination among teachers and non-teaching staff. Most would have received the first dose. The objective now is to accelerate their full immunisation,” chairman of the National Technical Advisory Group on immunisation, NK Arora was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The country has around 97 lakh teachers, and according to NITI Aayog member VK Paul, almost 50 per cent of them have already been vaccinated.

“It is crucial for teachers and school support or non-teaching staff to get fully vaccinated as part of the preparation for reopening of schools,” Arora told the national daily.
