Shimla: Reopened Schools Shut Down Again After Surge In COVID-19 Cases

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to close all educational institutions for a fortnight after a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases, said a minister on Tuesday.

During a state cabinet meeting, the decision to shut all schools and educational institutions from November 11 to 25 was made, said parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Bhardwaj.

Bhardwaj also added that the cabinet has decided to grant special vacation to all government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, engineering colleges and coaching institutes from November 11 to 25 for students, teaching and non-teaching staff.

Education institutions had recently opened in the state after being closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to this, the state cabinet also recommended to the Governor to convene the state assembly winter session from December 7 to 11 in Dharamshala. Meanwhile, the next Janmanch will be organised on December 5.

The total number of cases in Himachal Pradesh has reached 26,808.
