The class IX students of schools running under the banner of ‘Sufalam Shala Vikas Sankul in Gujarat were in for a shock when they came across the question “how did Gandhiji commit suicide?” during the exams on Saturday.
Another question about boot-legging in the class XII exam paper, in dry Gujarat, also irked the education officials.
“Gandhiji aapghaat karwa maatu shu karyu?” (How did Gandhiji commit suicide?) was the question asked in Gujarati to class IX students during an internal assessment examination of schools running under ‘Sufalam Shala Vikas Sankul’,” an official was quoted by various news outlets as saying.
The Sufalam Shala Vikas Sankul is an organisation of self-financed schools and educational institutions getting government grants in Gandhinagar.
“A cluster of self-financed schools and those getting grants had these two questions for internal assessment exams held on Saturday. These questions are highly objectionable and we have initiated an inquiry. Action will be taken after reports come in,” Gandhinagar’s District Education officer Bharat Vadher, told PTI.
He, however, clarified that the state government could not be held responsible for the questions as they were set by the school management.
