Twenty-three students from Odisha’s World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, have left for Singapore for a six-month paid internship programme that is creating overseas employment opportunities for Odisha’s skilled youth.
The students from WSC’s 2025-26 batch are the fifth cohort from the state-run advanced skill training institute to participate in the Singapore Internship Programme (SIP). The initiative is designed to provide international industry exposure, equip students with global workplace skills and improve their chances of securing jobs abroad.
During the internship, the students will work with six Singapore-based organisations: Four Seasons Hotel, Goodwood Park Hotel, Newway Systems, Neptune Technology, Grace Electrical Engineering and Vantive Manufacturing. The placements span hospitality, technology, electrical engineering and manufacturing sectors, offering hands-on experience in globally competitive work environments.
“The six-month internship in Singapore will provide students with an opportunity to apply their skills in real-world work environments and gain new experiences. This will help them become better prepared for their future careers,” said WSC Chief Executive Officer Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra.
“Our aim is to equip the youth of Odisha to achieve success in India and abroad through their skills and capabilities,” Mohapatra added.
A welcome reception for the students was organised in Singapore on Wednesday. The event was attended by representatives of the Indian High Commission, Singapore’s Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, ITE Education Services and industry organisations.
The programme is being jointly implemented by the Odisha government’s Skill Development and Technical Education Department and ITE Education Services, Singapore.
The initiative has already demonstrated its potential to convert international internships into overseas employment. Several students from earlier batches have received job offers from their host companies in Singapore, highlighting the programme’s role in helping Odisha’s skilled workforce access global career opportunities.
