Chandrayaan-2 Soft Landing On Moon To Be Screened Live Across Campuses In India

As the country holds its breath for the soft landing of Chandrayaan-2 on the lunar surface, campuses across the country have made special arrangements for students to witness the historic event live.

A number of IITs and other technical institutes apart from residential colleges and centres of higher learning would be screening the event live on their campuses.

“Its a lifetime opportunity and a moment of pride, IIT Bombay undergraduate student Sanskriti Bansali said.

“The mission will boost the confidence of both the space agency, ISRO and 1.3 billion Indians as we would take a leap in the space,” she said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Bengaluru on Friday evening, will witness the soft-landing live from the ISRO control centre. He will be joined by students who have been selected from various schools in the country.

 

Here’s when to catch the action live:

1. Doordarshan will start to telecast the event live from 12.30 am on September 7 (early morning tomorrow) and go on till 7 am encompassing all action from the descent of Vikram in Moon’s atmosphere to Rover Pragyan coming out and sending pictures of Moon.

2. The actual LIVE action from ISRO control centre is expected to commence from 1.30 am and the first event is expected to be over by around 2.10 am when the Lander has landed on Moon’s surface and has transmitted the confirmation.

3. The second phase of LIVE from ISRO is expected to commence at 3.40 am and is expected to go on until 6 am where the Rover Pragyan will be deployed from the Lander and roll out into the Moon’s surface.
