Teachers Urge Govt To Reopen Primary Schools In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Soon after the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) suggested that it’s time to reopen primary schools, teachers here urged the Odisha government to reopen its primary schools which have remained shut for almost 18 months now.

“We saw media reports quoting the ICMR that sero-survey results revealed children can handle viral infections better than adults. In such a situation, the government must consider reopening primary schools first than reopening the secondary schools,” Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (OPTA) president, Brahmanda Maharana was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

According to Maharana, online education for primary school students is not at all satisfactory.

“With all teachers vaccinated and students wearing masks and following Covid guidelines, we feel there should not be any problem in reopening schools for primary children,” the OPTA president said.
