New Delhi: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has responded to
BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy’s claims that out of the 18 lakh students who had downloaded the admit card for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), only eight lakh appeared for it.
The Union Minister took to Twitter and wrote, “Dr. @Swamy39 Ji, I would like to place some facts on the record regarding #JEE(Main) exams. The number of applicants for #JEEMains stands at 8.58 lakhs, not 18 lakhs as you tweeted.”
He further tweeted, “Out of 8.58 lakh #JEEMains applicants, 6.35 lakhs appeared for the exam. Central & respective State Governments assured all possible assistance to the students, for which I compliment all State Governments as well. This entire effort displayed the spirit of cooperative federalism.”
He explained why several students might have skipped the JEE Mains examination. “JEEMains Exams are held twice in a year. The previous one was held in January this year. Several students who didn’t appear for the exam in Sept may have done well in the January exam hence did not feel the need to sit for the exam this time. We are ascertaining those numbers,” wrote Pokhriyal.
On Wednesday BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy slammed the government and the concerned authorities for going ahead with the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2020 in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
