New Delhi: Seven top Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided to boycott this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) rankings — one of the most prestigious along with QS world rankings for institutes of higher education — criticising its lack of transparency.
In a joint statement, the Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee IITs they will reconsider their decision next year if THE is able to convince them about the parameters and transparency in its ranking process, the New Indian Express reported.
According to sources, the top IITs were particularly peeved that some younger IITs were ranked higher in the recent THE rankings.
“This is one of the issues we had raised when the discussions happened with THE officials. There should also be greater clarity on the ratio and the calculation being used for the ranking and we have been constantly flagging this,” the report quoted a director of one of the IITs as saying.
