Thrissur: Jyothi Engineering College, Cheruthuruthy, here has done a unique thing by assigning identity cards with barcodes to the trees on the campus under the Centre’s Biodiversity Project-2019.
The name boards along with barcodes have been installed for all trees on the Jyothi Engineering College campus. One will get details about the trees and their uses just by scanning the QR code, reported The Hindu.
This has been done to create awareness among students and teachers of trees and their role in reducing global warming and pollution, college sources were quoted as saying by the daily.
The Public Relations Department and Green Club of the college, led by Fr. Roy Joseph Vadakkan, secretary and campus head of the college implemented the project.
There are around 1,000 trees belonging to 80-odd species in the college under the Syro Malabar Catholic Archdiocese, Thrissur. The college also has 350-odd bamboo grooves.
