UGC To Allow Higher Education Institutions To Offer Courses In Blended Mode

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) is set to allow higher education institutions in the country to offer programmes in blended mode.

The higher education regulatory body has already prepared the draft regulation and that has been shared with all stakeholders, asking for feedback and suggestions.

According to the UGC, higher education institutions should be allowed to impart teaching in blended mode — “up to 40% of syllabus of each course (other than SWAYAM course) through online mode and the remaining 60% syllabus of the concerned course could be taught offline mode”.

The commission suggested that examinations for both 40% of online and 60% offline teaching can be held offline. “This provision may be created over and above up to 40% of online education permissible for SWAYAM courses,” UGC said in a notification signed by secretary & CVO Rajnish Jain.

“To prepare a concept note on blended mode of teaching, the UGC constituted an expert committee. The draft note has been circulated for comments and suggestions on or before 06. 06. 2021,” the notification further stated.
