The University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, United States has announced the launch of the 5th Kalam Postgraduate (PhD) Fellowship, to mark the birth anniversary of late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India.
The Fellowship, named in his honour and in memory of his 2012 visit to USF, is offered to students who have graduated (or are in the process of graduating) from an Indian university in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme.
The deadline for submission of application is till the first week of February 2020.
The online application to USF for a PhD Programme requires the submission of a research proposal in any of the following areas:
Applied Anthropology
- Applied Physics
- Business PhD programmes
- Cell Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer Science & Engineering
- Engineering
- Criminology
- Integrative Biolog
- Marine Science
- Psychology
Awarded to one student per academic year, the USF fellowship waivers tuition fee for all four years, pays health insurance and also provides a 12 month 22,000 dollars stipend, courtesy of the Provost’s Office.
Previous winners include Avijit Sengupta of IIT Bombay, Veena Subramanian of the Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore and Arjun Kadian from the University of Pune. All three are currently pursuing their PhD research at USF.
