Veterinary Courses’ Upper Age Limit: Delhi High Court Seeks Government Response

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court asked for responses from the Union ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying and the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) over a petition challenging the upper age limit of 25 years for admission to veterinary programmes.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant Gajanand Mishra filed the petition. Mishra was represented by advocates Zoheb Hussain and Vivek Gurnani.

Age limit was introduced by the government in 2016 under regulation 6 of the Veterinary Council of India Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education – (Bachelor of veterinary science and animal husbandry – degree course) Regulations.

The plea stated that the regulation passed in 2016 violated the fundamental rights under article 14, article 19(1)(g) and article 21 of the Indian Constitution, reported ABP Education.

Division bench judges, Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh heard the petition.
